Dental fillings made from synthetic resin are often used to restore the integrity, morphology, and function of a damaged tooth.
The most common cause of damage necessitating the use of fillings is dental decay, a disease that destroys dental tissue. Dental decay is preferably confronted at its early stages, in order to minimize the loss of dental structure and avoid the need for endodontic treatment, crown placement, or extraction. It can be easily diagnosed during routine dental examinations.
Dental fillings may also be used to repair damages caused by some malfunction such as tooth grinding, fractures caused in accidents, or to replace older fillings made from amalgam.
