The sinus cavity also known as maxillary sinus, is the largest paranasal sinus, an air-filled cavity which extends to the roots of the molars and sometimes the premolars of the upper jaw.
After the extraction of one or more maxillary molars the sinus cavity begins to occupy the space once taken by the roots of the corresponding teeth, while at the same time, as in any extraction, there is partial, gradual alveolar resorption. As a result, especially if a significant amount of time has passed from the extraction, the placement of implants becomes impossible since there is no bone able to support them.
A procedure which enables implant placement in such cases is sinus lift, the placement of bone grafts inside the sinus, under the membrane of the sinus cavity which has been carefully detached.
Sinus lifting is a completely safe and predictable procedure, with an almost 100% degree of success.
